Required Concussion Training:

Concussion Training: All athletes and parents who have registered for a fall sport, the Massachusetts Regulation 105 CMR 201.000 requirement that all student athletes and their parent/guardian(s) complete a Massachusetts Department of Public Health approved head injury safety training.  This is an annual training, and school districts are required to maintain a record of completion of such training.  In order to promote the health and safety of our students, all parents/guardians of Fall Season student athletes are asked to complete this free training from the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) by start of tryouts or practices.

In order to complete the training you will need to:

1.     Register for an account on the NFHS site. https://nfhslearn.com/courses/concussion-in-sports-2

2.     Choose the Concussion in Sports Course for Coaches, Parents, etc

3.     Follow the steps to “purchase” the FREE course for Massachusetts

4.     Click “Go to My Courses” on the order receipt

5.     Complete the training which consists of videos, slides, and quizzes (approximately 30 minutes plus resources available for more details)

Upon completing the training, you will need to:

1.) Click on “Show Certificate” and download a PDF copy of the completion certificate (do not choose the share by email option as that will not provide a copy of your certificate)

2.) Name the PDF with your last name and the date (example: Jones_9_30_23)

3.) Attach the PDF to an email and include the athletes name and sport in the body of the email.

4.) Submit it to the SPS Department of Athletics at concussiontraining@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us

A minimum of one parent/guardian per household is asked to complete the training.  SPS will maintain records of student and parent/guardian certificates of completion. The training is valid for one year, therefore students/families who complete the training for the fall season will not be required to do so again if participating in winter and spring season sports.

All coaches and school nurses also complete the training annually.

*Parents and athletes who registered for fall sports and completed the training for fall sports, do not need to retake the certification. Please have this completed prior to fall sports tryouts.

Please direct any questions to Jay Costa, Director of Athletics, at  jcosta@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us
