Work Permits

If you are seeking employment and are under the age of 18, you will need to complete the work permit process prior to starting work.  Please see the instructions below for information on how to complete the process.

1. Securing Employment

To begin the process, you will first need to secure employment.  If you haven't been offered a position yet or are still in the interview process, you will need to wait until you have been offered a job in order to complete the form.

2. Completing the Work Permit Application

Once you secure a job, you can complete the Work Permit Application.  Please bring the form to your employer and they will complete the first page.  On the second page of the application, you and your parent or guardian will sign.  Each of these signatures are required.  If you are 14 or 15 years old, you will also have to obtain your physician's signature.

3. Sending the Work Permit Application

Once your Work Permit Application is complete in its entirety, you can bring it to the School Department in the Shrewsbury Town Hall (100 Maple Avenue).  Alternatively, you may scan and email the form to Kevin Escalante at kescalante@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us.  Once you receive the Work Permit, you can bring it to your employer and begin your job.

Please note that if you do not currently attend Shrewsbury Public Schools, you will also need to email a photocopy of your birth certificate, passport, or ID, and include the following information in your email:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Residential address
  • Current school
  • Current grade

Please note that it may take up to 1-2 business days to receive your work permit.
