Oak Middle School’s Silent Book Club
What is it?
Silent Book Club is about community: hanging out together, reading your book, having your snack, and sharing what you’re reading with others. There’s no pressure to read the same thing as everyone else; instead, you share what you’re already reading and learn a little about what others are reading.
How does it work?
We’ll meet every-other-week on Mondays at 2:50 for 1 hour. The first 10 minutes will be social time to chat about your book with others. Then, we’ll all read silently for 40 minutes together. The last 10 minutes will also be social time to chat about what you read and what others were reading.
What do you need?
A book, a snack, and a willingness to “just be in the moment” for an hour.
When and where does it meet?
Meet every-other-Monday in Room 427 at 2:50pm for 1 hour. Meeting dates: Sept. 13, Sept. 27, Oct. 18, Nov. 1, Nov. 15, Dec. 6, Dec. 20, Jan. 10, Jan. 31, Feb. 7, Feb. 28, Mar. 7, Mar. 21, Apr. 4, Apr. 25, May 9, May 23, Jun. 6. Attend the meetings that you can.
Is there a required book?
No. Read what you like. Each month has a suggested genre, but you don’t have to follow the suggestion. Suggested genres
Can my sister/brother/cousin join if they’re not at Oak?
This is for Oak students, but if your sibling is at Sherwood and really wants to join us, they certainly can.
Do I have to attend every meeting?
No. This is a low-key, come-as-you-can-when-you-can book club.
Is there a cost?
The only cost to join is the one time $75.00 activity fee. Please go to the Parent Portal to pay the fee. Once the fee is paid you will be able to sign up.
