SHARE BASKET
Seventh and eighth graders are eating machines at lunchtime!  We served lunch from 11:00 to 1:00 and students are very hungry when their lunch rolls around—especially those seventh graders who have last lunch everyday.  Sometimes, school lunch or a lunch packed from home just doesn’t have enough to fill those bellies.  Here is where the Share Basket comes in.  The Advisors from the Community Service and Leadership Club, D’Arcy McCarthy and Jody Miller, fill the basket with protein bars, granola bars and fruit.  We monitor the basket during lunch to make sure there are always things in it.  Students are encouraged to place any store bought, pre-packaged snacks that they do not want to eat in the Share Basket.  We observe students putting in cartons of yogurt, unwanted whole fruit, unopened drinks, and bags of snacks like chips—this is awesome!  We also observe students visiting the basket to supplement their own lunch with the snacks.  If you are wondering if you can help with the Share Basket, the answer is a resounding, “YES”!!  We welcome all donations of prepackaged snacks like granola bars, protein bars, Rx Bars, Sunchips, Goldfish in individual bags, Cheese-its, small bottles of water, etc.

OMS FOOD PANTRY
Food insecurity, meaning not always having enough food, is a problem that is pervasive in America and present in our community of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.  Not having enough food is a family stressor we would like to help alleviate.  Last year we establish our Feeding Families program and we are continuing to grow that program this year. OMS students donated 453.4 pounds of food for a total of 624 items!

If your family could benefit from either regular or occasional help with food, please Download the confidential application process that is facilitated by the nursing staff at OMS.

All food is distributed through the nurse’s office as well. We are here to help you and your family.
