After School Activities Program

Registration for Spring ASAP classes is now open.

All registration and payment must be done through the parent portal. (Classes will be listed in the "Sports and Activities" section of the portal once registration opens.) Your spot in the class is not guaranteed until payment is made.

Class: Talking About Movies: A Film Studies class
Cost: $30
Time: Wednesdays 3:00-4:00
Location: room 338
Dates: 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, 5/20
Instructor:  Ms. Fonseca
Description:  This appreciation course will introduce students to the world of cinema and film. The course will define film as an art, explain how films tells stories, discuss the mechanics of making an effective film, summarize the different genres of film, and discuss how films have changed over the years, and how they reflect our culture back to us. The course is an appreciation course and requires no previous background in theater or drama!

Class: An introduction to Birds and Birding
Cost: $30

Instructor:  Mr. Hardee
Description: Have you ever wished you could identify the birds you see around you every day?  Would you like the opportunity to view, identify and photograph birds in the field?  Mr. Hardee has seen and photographed almost 400 different bird species around the world, and will teach the class all about different types of birds, how to identify birds in the field, bird conservation practices, migration of birds, bird intelligence, and more.  The class will set up some feeders on school grounds, watch bird videos, play bird games, start a bird log, and meet Mr. Hardee for an optional bird walk at Broadmeadow Brook on a Saturday morning. April is the start of migration for birds which raises the chances of seeing more birds than normal as well as the possibility of seeing rare birds are not normally seen in Massachusetts.

Class: Volleyball
Cost: $30
Time: Thursdays 3:00-4:00

Instructors:  Mr. Denolf, Mr. Ahlin
Description: The students will learn the basic skills of volleyball.  They will also learn the game and cooperatively work together in competition as a team.  

Registration Instructions:

  • Log into the Parent Portal.
  • From the navigation menu on the left, select “Sports and Activities”
  • Choose the class you wish to take by clicking “Assign Fee”
  • From the navigation menu, select “Payment Center” and you will be redirected to School Pay
  • Your spot is not reserved until you have completed your payment.
  • Scholarships are available on an as-needed basis

Additional Information:

  • There is no transportation for this program. Students must be picked up promptly at 4:00
  • Classes are open to Oak Middle School students only.
  • Please note that the ASAP programs do not require the $50 district activity fee. You are only required to pay the fee associated with the activity. (The district activities fee does NOT cover this program.)
  • Classes will need to meet minimum enrollments (10 students) in order to take place. We will contact you ONLY if a class is cancelled.
  • There is no nurse on duty at the school during the after-school program.
  • We must be able to reach a parent/guardian or designated adult by phone that can immediately come to the school in case of an emergency or unacceptable behavior.
  • Classes only meet on days when school is in session. Classes will not meet on vacation days, holidays or snow days.
  • On occasion, a class may be cancelled the day of class. Students need to listen to announcements for cancellations. Parents WILL NOT be notified of day-to-day cancellations. After school plans should be in place for all students in case of cancellations.
  • If a class is cancelled due to weather or other circumstances, the instructor will arrange for a make-up date.
  • Expectations for appropriate student behavior are the same as during the school day. Students who do not behave appropriately may be asked to withdraw from the program.
  • There will be no refunds.
