Class: Yoga - Mondays

Description: Students will learn yoga poses, breathing exercises, create mindful art pieces and journal as a method of calming the mind and body. Yoga mats are provided. We will use the Grow and Flow kids yoga curriculum.

Description: Do you want to have fun, meet new friends, and get some exercise at the same time? Each week, we will get some exercise by moving our feet on the paths around Sherwood’s fields. What a great way to enjoy the gorgeous fall weather! Make sure you have comfortable clothes and sneakers, a water bottle to keep you hydrated, and a positive attitude!  Please note, there is no Monday class on October 14 due to the Columbus day holiday, and we will have class on Tuesday October 15th instead so we can maximize the warmer weather.

Description: Calling all animal lovers! We will work together to learn more about animals and the environment through crafts, games, research, and more. Our club will also work on a project to help out animals in need within the local community! Hope to see you there!

Description: Have you ever wondered how long will it take to grow a penny to a million or billion dollars? Or what attributes do Mozart, LeBron James, Toni Morrison, and Sal Khan have in common? As you know, finance plays an important role in our lives. The rules of money and its management should be a basic life skill. In Finance for Life (Fin4Life), you will learn the basics of finance, the importance of savings and starting it early, the perils of debt, and the magical power of compounding. You will learn these skills in a fun, engaging, and entertaining manner with role-play activities, and interactive discussions. We hope to see you in the class!

Description: Have you ever wanted to learn how to knit? In this class, we will learn all the basics for knitting: knit and purl stitches and casting on/casting off. If you knit already and you want to learn more, we can also cover more advanced knitting stitches!

Description: The “official” Hour of Code will take place during Computer Science Education
week in early December. BUT who says that we have to limit it to one hour? This class will allow you to explore some websites, online courses, apps, and robots that will allow you to independently learn to code! Please note, this class will be based on students teaching themselves (and classmates!) how to complete some coding tasks accessible on the iPad in a quiet, collaborative environment!

Description: With back to school here, take the opportunity to play outdoors. Do you like wiffle ball, kickball, obstacle courses, or other games? Then you will love this program! Here is an opportunity to be outside, participate in team challenges, and have fun! *Students are required to wear sneakers for the activities

Registration Instructions:

  • Log into the Parent Portal.
  • From the navigation menu on the left, select “Sports and Activities”
  • Choose the class you wish to take by clicking “Assign Fee”
  • From the navigation menu, select “Payment Center” and you will be redirected to School Pay
  • Your spot is not reserved until you have completed your payment.

Additional Information:

  • There is no transportation for this program. Students must be picked up promptly at 3:55
  • Classes are open to Sherwood Middle School students only.
  • Please note that the ASAP programs do not require the $50 district activity fee. You are only required to pay the fee associated with the activity. (The district activities fee does NOT cover this program.)
  • Classes will need to meet minimum enrollments (10 students) in order to take place. We will contact you ONLY if a class is cancelled.
  • There is no nurse on duty at the school during the after-school program.
  • We must be able to reach a parent/guardian or designated adult by phone that can immediately come to the school in case of an emergency or unacceptable behavior.
  • Classes only meet on days when school is in session. Classes will not meet on early release, vacation, holidays or parent conference days. Instructors will arrange for a make-up class for these days.
  • On occasion, a class may be cancelled the day of class. Students need to listen to announcements and check the after-school bulletin board by the main office. Parents WILL NOT be notified of day-to-day cancellations. After school plans should be in place for all students in case of cancellations.
  • If a class is cancelled due to weather or other circumstances, the instructor will arrange for a make-up date.
  • Expectations for appropriate student behavior are the same as during the school day. Students who do not behave appropriately may be asked to withdraw from the program.
  • There will be no refunds.

The Sherwood After School Activities Program (ASAP) offers hour-long classes that run once a week after school for 8 weeks.  Anticipated program dates for the 2019-2020 school year are:
Session 1:  October 9- December 1
Session 2: January 6 - March 6
Session 3:  March 23 - May 22
 
Each class costs $30. Class titles vary depending on the interests and availability of the teachers.
Classes are only open to the students enrolled at Sherwood.  Information about the classes will be posted here, and will be included in the principal's weekly email to parents.
