AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES PROGRAM (ASAP)
Throughout the year, Sherwood offers a variety of hour-long after-school activities. Classes typically meet once a week for six weeks, and each session costs $40. Registration for the fall session opens Wednesday, October 4th at 7:00 AM through the parent portal.
Class: Hours of Code
Time: Wednesdays, 3:15-4:15
Dates: 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/29, 12/6

Class size: 20 students
Location: Room 302
Description: The “official” Hour of Code takes place during Computer Science Education week in early December. BUT who says that we have to limit it to one hour? This class will allow you to explore some websites, online courses, and apps that will allow you to independently learn to code! Please note, this class will be based on students teaching themselves (and classmates!) how to complete some coding tasks accessible on the iPad in a quiet, collaborative environment! Headphones or earbuds, although not required, are helpful for using some of the tools and apps in the course. (Please note that this is the same course that was run last year; students are welcome to take the course again!)

Class Size: 16 students
Location: Room 202
Description: Role-playing games continue to grow in popularity among children and teens alike. Whether playing well-known versions like Dungeons and Dragons or collaborative story-telling games like Wanderhome, role-playing inspires teamwork, creativity, and fun. Interested students will be able to try four different game types including collaborative storytelling, classic Dungeons and Dragons, and even improvisation-based games! Be prepared to use your imagination.

Class Size: 12 students

Description: In this course students will use colored construction paper to create different types of flowers. Flowers will be not only created in a 2-D form, but also 3D. Students will be encouraged to be creative, work with peers, and above all enjoy and have fun with the flower making process.

Time: Thursdays, 3:15-4:15
Dates: 10/26, 11/2, 11/16, 11/30, 12/7, 12/14
Instructor: Deirdre Kunar
Location: 344
Description: Students will explore sculpture with kiln fired clay. Students will learn basic hand building techniques to create several projects. Techniques include wedging, slab, pinch pots, coils, and projects will be painted with food safe glaze.
Class: Stress-free Yoga and Zen-doodling
Time: Thursdays, 3:15-4:15
Dates: 10/26, 11/2, 11/16, 11/30, 12/7, 12/14
Instructor: Bindu Gupta
Location: Media Center
Description: Students will learn the basic yoga poses with proper breathing techniques to bring calmness to the body and mind. The daily techniques of Meditation will be practiced . Yoga mats are provided, dress for a workout class (No jeans).
Zen-doodling is an easy to learn drawing method that is fun and relaxing. It increases focus and creativity. This provides artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of personal wellbeing.
Additional Information
- There is no transportation provided for this class. Parents must pick up their child at the main entrance promptly at 4:15, or you can register your child for the late bus.
- Students who are enrolled in extended day will be brought to the cafeteria after class and you may pick them up from ESC as you normally would
- Class fees are non-refundable. Credit will not be given if your child misses a class. If a class is cancelled (for inclement weather or teacher illness) we will make every effort to offer a make-up class on a different date
Registration Instructions:
- Log into the Parent Portal.
- From the navigation menu on the left, select “Sports and Activities”
- Choose the class you wish to take by clicking “Assign Fee”
- From the navigation menu, select “Payment Center” and you will be redirected to School Pay
- Your spot is not reserved until you have completed your payment. Unpaid registrations will be automatically deleted.
