• An ideal candidate for this position will meet the following criteria:
• Available to work all home games at Polar Park during the 2026 season (March-September) as well as team unpacks. This includes both night and day games, weekends and some holidays.
• A detailed eye for cleanliness with excellent communication skills.
• Self-motivated, reliable and able to follow direction in a timely and goal-oriented manner.
• Physically able to stand for long periods of time and work late into the night/early morning.

While serving as first responders for a state agency, DCR Lifeguards learn invaluable life skills and develop work experience that translates well toward most career fields. Additionally, DCR lifeguards are expected to maintain daily conditioning at work, which supports the Fall and Winter scholastic athletic season.

In order to be considered for a DCR lifeguard position, applicants must be at least 16 years of age before May 2026. Importantly, we provide Red Cross certifications to students who work for us FREE of charge. These certification courses are offered over December, February & April breaks, as well as options during weekends or evenings within that timeframe, so as to not interfere with the academic school year. Upcoming courses are currently scheduled in Westborough, Fitchburg, Greenfield, Athol, Marlborough and Worcester. The regular lifeguarding season commences in June and concludes in late August. DCR lifeguards work up to 40 hours a week (weekend availability is required), last year were paid $22-$24 per hour depending on position and receive accrued sick time. Lifeguards at beach locations work from 9:30AM to 6:00PM, and guards stationed at pools will have shifts scheduled between 9:30AM to 7:00PM.
