Dear Floral Families,

Thank you to all parents and caregivers who participated in a conference with your child’s teachers last Tuesday.  The building was bustling with families coming and going throughout the day- we hope you found your conference time to be informative, productive, and positive.  Don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher(s) or us throughout the year to share your questions, insights, and/or concerns. Close communications between home and school are key to our students’ growth and success; thank you for partnering with us!

On Friday, we met with all first and second grade students to discuss ideas from a story that all classes recently read, titled The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig.  The story tells about a boy named Brian who feels invisible at school- other children leave him out of conversations, parties, and games.  That all changes when a new student joins the class and shows kindness to Brian through simple acts, including smiles, compliments, and partnering with Brian on a group project.  These small acts change Brian- he now feels included and connected to his class. During School Meeting, we talked about how every child and adult in the gym has the ability to make someone else feel included through showing these small acts of kindness.  The McGrail and Plourde classes served as the leaders of School Meeting by sharing drawings that show examples of kindness at Floral Street School. You can see some of their work on display in the front foyer- they shared some great ideas!

We look forward to meeting with all third and fourth grade students this Friday to share important learning from the same story.  If you would like to enjoy the story with your family at home, please click on this link for a read-aloud on You Tube;

As a  reminder, there is no school tomorrow, Monday, November 12th, in observance of Veteran’s Day.

Have a wonderful week ahead.

~Lisa and Gina
