Dear Floral Families,

With the December break just a week away, we look forward to some special traditions at school this week:

4th Grade Volleyball Tournament:  In the spirit of friendly competition, all fourth grade classes will compete in a beach volleyball tournament tomorrow, hosted by Mrs. Smith, physical education teacher. After each round of games, the winning class will compete against Floral teachers and principals, who are intent on maintaining their championship title from last year (hey, we like to have fun, too).

All School Meeting & Sing-Along:  On Friday afternoon, we’ll gather together to cheer the end of the 2018 calendar year and the many holidays celebrated by our Floral families.  It’s by far our favorite School Meeting of the year, with the gymnasium practically bursting with joy. We are grateful to music teachers, Ms. Martino and Ms. Crump for planning and preparing students for this joyful time to celebrate the season together.

Tomorrow, all students will be taking home their trimester one report cards.  We appreciate the time you take to review this report with your children, especially the sections reporting on work habits and social skills, as developing strengths in these skills directly impacts their performance in academics.  Please sign and return the half-sheet of paper that comes home with the report card so teachers know that it made its way safely out of the backpack. If you have any questions regarding information on the report card, please reach out to your child’s teacher(s).

We wish all Floral families a joyful holiday; we look forward to seeing students in the new year!

Sincerely,

Lisa and Gina

Holiday Shop and Earn Money for Floral!

Amazon Smile

Use the smile.amazon.com URL when shopping at Amazon and 0.5% of your eligible purchases will be donated to the Floral PTO. Here’s how:

-       Start your shopping at http://smile.amazon.com

-       AmazonSmile will provide a default charity for you. Look below that and you will see a prompt to pick your own charity. In the box provided, type: Floral Street School PTO

-       The next screen will have you confirm your selection. Hit “Select” when you see the school name and city/state

-       The top of your screen will show the AmazonSmile logo, and you will see the words “Supporting: Floral Street School PTO.” If you are already supporting another charity and want to make a change, click on “Supporting” and follow the steps to select a charity.

-       From there, everything is the same as your previous shopping experience with Amazon. Your account, shopping cart, wish list, wedding or baby registry, and other settings are also the same.

Floral Media Center Donate-a-Book Program

For that person who has everything, why not donate a book in their name to the Floral Media Center. A $20 donation will allow your child to choose a book from the display case outside of the Media Center. An inscription label stating your name and a personalized message from you will be added to the book. Your child will be the first to take the newly donated book home, before it is entered into circulation for everyone to enjoy.

To donate a book, complete the following form (https://campussuite-storage.s3.amazonaws.com/prod/11162/b2004386-1ca3-11e6-b537-22000bd8490f/1662448/0d4b74fe-d33b-11e7-b51f-0aff7b05eb72/file/FloralDonateABook.pdf ) and send it in with payment in your child’s backpack.

Charitable Donations

As you plan your charitable giving for the end of 2018, consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Floral Street School PTO, either using the following link:

3rd Annual Winter Break Fun Raiser

Need something to do over winter break? Consider having your child join in the PTO-sponsored “Fun Raiser,” to raise money for indoor recess games/supplies for his/her classroom. It is an easy and fun activity to keep kids busy during the holiday. Here’s what to do:

-       Your child will design and make their very own creation.

-       Each child can decide what type of creation they want to make using items found around the house (ex. LEGOs, recycled materials, old toys, art & craft supplies).

-       After your child has completed their creation, take a picture of it, print it out, and attach it to the back of the form attached to this email.

-       There is a $5.00 fee to participate. All money collected will go to purchase items for indoor recess time.

-       Photos of students’ creations will be posted on the school’s bulletin board after the winter break. All payments, forms, and photos must be returned to school no later than Friday, January 4th. Happy building!

If you have any questions, please email Robbin Miller at rmillerchat@aol.com

Game Night – Save the Date!

On Thursday, January 17th (snow date Friday 1/18) at 6:30 PM, we will be hosting a Family Game Night in the Floral cafeteria. More details to follow as we get closer to the event.

Box Tops

Don’t forget to send in your Box Tops before they expire! Just put them in a Ziploc bag with the name of your child’s teacher on the front. Money raised from Box Tops will be put toward much needed supplies for Art, Gym, and Music.

For Parents of Fourth Grade Girls - SYFS Offers Middle School Readiness Program

SYFS is happy to announce that we will be running You Go, Girl! specifically for 4th grade girls during February and April vacation weeks. The transition from elementary school and into 5th grade is a big one! We have designed this program specifically with the questions and fears 4th grade girls have in mind and will provide them with the tools they will need to identify and manage emotions, navigate and strengthen changing relationships, cope with the new challenges and pressures they will be facing, and make educated and healthy lifestyle choices.
