MISSION STATEMENT & CORE VALUES

The Floral Street School Mission Statement was crafted by teachers and parents prior to the opening of the school in August of 1997. It reads as follows:

Planting the seed of lifelong learning
Cultivating cooperation, compassion, and confidence

During the 2002-2003 school year, staff, parents, and students used this mission statement as the foundation for articulating our school's Core Values:

At Floral Street School, everyone will work together in order to provide the best possible experience for children. Students, educators, parents, and caretakers will:

• Cooperate in order to benefit from everyone's strengths
• Communicate ideas, compliments, questions, and concerns
• Celebrate successes of both achievement and effort

At Floral Street School, we will demonstrate a positive attitude about learning. We will:

• Believe that learning is important and rewarding
• Exercise our imagination and increase our curiosity about the world
• Understand that learning is a process that never ends

 At Floral Street School, we will strive to maximize our learning. We will:

• Recognize that effort and perseverance are the most important factors in reaching goals and that we are responsible for our own learning
• Organize and plan in order to meet challenges both independently and cooperatively
• Acquire expected skills and knowledge and use these to think critically and to solve problems

At Floral Street School, we will understand and demonstrate respect for ourselves, for others, and for our community. We will:

• Act with honesty, integrity, courtesy, and kindness
• Practice compassion by helping those in need

These ideas guide our planning and our practice. It is our responsibility to act in accordance with these values, and it is our responsibility to communicate our values to our students, to their parents, and to the community.
