Build-it Bonanza offers a wide variety of building materials such as Lincoln Logs, Keva Planks, Knex, Magna tiles and more, for creative designs and construction. We will have daily challenges ranging from build a maze, build the tallest structure, build a marble run, build a log cabin, etc, as well as creative time for individual and team builds.  We will build, snack, run outside and build some more! Students will engage in a variety of activities related to books written and/or illustrated by Eric Carle.  Our daily schedule will include outdoor gross motor games, crafts, mindful yoga practices and play-based literacy and math centers.  Students will explore Eric Carle’s collage technique used in his illustrations and take a virtual tour of the Eric Carle Museum.  The Mixed-Up Chameleon, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grouchy Ladybug and many more stories will inspire our young authors and illustrators! 1, 2 Enchanted Fairy Gardens Fairy Gardens are miniature gardens designed to lure fairies. They often feature a tiny home, small plants and other accessories, and building one can be a magical and creative experience! 1, 2 Things That Go BUMP in the Night! BUMP! What was that? A ghost, or something else entirely? Do I need to be afraid? Come join me as we explore the spooky world of things that scare us. We'll discover if vampires, zombies, ghosts, werewolves and witches really exist. Follow me into the world of nocturnal animails to learn more about bats, cats and owls. We'll read about the myths and legends from around the world and the reality of these creatures that scare us. We'll even explore why some people celebrate with skeletons!! (What's up with that?!) 1, 2, 3 Shark Week Ahoy, shark enthusiasts! Join us on a deep dive into the ocean! Because sharks play an important role in ocean ecosystems, we’ll be looking at the habitat, food, lifecycles, size, types, and interesting facts about a variety of sharks. 1, 2, 3, 4 Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Come explore the land down under! Students will spend the week learning about Australia and everything that makes it unique. This hands-on class will help your designers discover an array of materials, textures, and artistic expression while gaining a keen sense of fashion and style! 1, 2, 3, 4 Mad Scientists Get your lab coat ready and come join us for mad scientists. This class will be packed full of experiments, sure to get you excited for the fun world of science. Using the scientific method, we will  observe, research, make predictions, test our experiments and record our findings. 3, 4 Yarn Creations In this fun class students will be introduced to the fiber arts with a focus on learning how to use yarn in a variety of ways to create crafts with supplies that can be found at home. Students will create a variety of crafts and explore different techniques including (but not limited to): finger knitting, making pom-poms, loom knitting with popsicle sticks, yarn wrapped letters, God’s eyes, and so much more!  We will have fun using yarn in creative ways to make fun projects that can easily be made at home on their own. 3, 4, 5 Hour of Code with Dash Robots  In this class we will learn the basics of computer science by doing Hour of Code activities.  We will also work in teams to use Dash and Dot robots to complete tasks and play activities.  First, we will learn how to solve the tasks.  Then, we will learn to write programs so the robots can complete the tasks.  No experience is needed.   July 22-25 8:30-11:30 Jill Shah
3, 4, 5 Winter Wonderland Join us for a fun-filled week as we escape the heat, channel the cold and explore one of the most magical times of the year: Winter! From wintery crafts to chilly games, we’ve got something for everyone. We’ll make salt dough ornaments and snowflakes, craft snow globes and decorate gingerbread houses, and make candy cane slime and even our very own snow! 3, 4, 5, 6 Madhubani Paintings Join us for an enjoyable and therapeutic form of art where participants will be guided into making beautiful art creations on canvas. This relaxing art work will increase focus and promotes mindfulness.   Madhubani paintings are a traditional art form that have been around for 2,500 years. In this class, we will focus on “katchni” style, made using a monochrome or only two colors, and “Godna” style, signifying natural creatures into art. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 S.M.A.R.T. (Science, Math Art, Reading and Theatre)    S.M.A.R.T. offers students the opportunity to explore different activities in all of these 5 areas: Science, Math, Art, Reading and Theatre. The course will provide children with an educational enrichment experience where they'll learn skills not just limited to Science /Math but also Art, Theatre and life skills, make new friends and create fun memories. The students will participate in science challenges, learn math shortcuts and participate in math quiz, and work on various art projects. The students will also work in teams of actors, directors, and playwrights, all working towards producing and performing original 10-minute plays according to their age group. 4, 5, 6, 7 Embroidery Design  Embroidery is the process of embellishing the surface of textiles with decorative stitching using colorful threads often made of silk or cotton. Students will create art with a needle and thread rather than a brush, paint, pen or pencil. Embroidery cultivates mindfulness, helps in managing emotions, reduces stress, and increases self-awareness. 5, 6 LeadHERship Welcome to LeadHERship Camp (formerly You Go, Girl), one of ShrewsburyYouth and Family Services’ most popular programs. This full-day program focuses on the concerns, hopes, dreams and goals of middle school girls by discussing the important changes they are experiencing during this critical time in their lives. They will learn how to strengthen their self- confidence, manage emotions, and communicate better with friends and family members. There will be plenty of practice in decision-making and problem-solving too !They will learn how being healthy will help them become the person they are meant to be. We have included ways to stay drug-free and help others stay drug- free. Finally, they will practice setting goals and thinking about ways to make the most of themselves! This class offers students the chance to choose from different reading selections and bring one to life through expression of voice and body. 3, 4, 5, 6 Intro to Photography This class is designed to introduce students to the basics of photography. Through fun and interactive activities, students will learn the fundamentals of taking a good photograph, including composition, lighting, and subject selection. They will also have the opportunity to use different types of cameras, such as digital, instant and their iPads, to capture their own images.Throughout the course we will explore different types of photography, such as portrait, landscape, and still life, and how to create unique and artistic images within each genre. In addition to hands-on learning, students will also have the opportunity to edit and enhance their photos using basic editing software. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 Chess for Everyone This chess course is run by a highly USCF rated tournament player and tournament director who will ensure a level of instruction that fits every child (from beginner to advanced). This course is for any chess player who either wants to begin learning or continue honing their chess skills. The student will learn chess in a fun and an interactive way according to their skill levels in smaller group setting without forgoing healthy competition. The course consists of basic understanding of the game, tactics, various traps, opening /endgame principles, recognizing checkmate patterns, chess tournaments and chess puzzle competition. The course inspires the students to think out of the box and educate kids how to look beyond obvious rather than just playing action/ reactionary game. 4, 5, 6 Beyond Fuse Beads Are you familiar with “fuse beads” and the 2D creations you can make with them? Well, it’s time to think BIGGER and move beyond the pegboard in our class focused on creating 3D projects with your favorite meltable beads. Each day we will create unique crafts with a fresh take on fuse beads, including bookmarks and fidget spinners, 3D creatures and plants, interlocking layers for boxes, and creative storage solutions such as phone holders or headphone wraps. 4, 5, 6, 7 Let's Get Cooking! A Unified Cooking & Content Creation Adventure Have you ever scrolled online for hours watching cooking videos? Do you love to chop it up in the kitchen? Are you curious about getting started with on-line content creation? This class is an inclusive experience for ALL students to learn tasty new recipes and produce short-form videos. Students who participate in special education classes will be paired with a peer to learn recipes, write a script, and record a video. Students will come home at the end of the week with a downloadable cookbook of recipes and a video of their cooking demonstration!  Unified classes provide opportunities for students with and without disabilities to work together, to develop leadership skills, and promote inclusion in the school community!  There is an additional $10 materials fee included in the price of this class. 5, 6, 7 Unified Interactive Story Telling  Students will be provided with the opportunity to showcase their talents and enhance communication skills through the expressive world of theater in a supportive and inclusive setting. We will incorporate: Interactive story telling: Tailored scripts and inclusive roles ensure that each student can actively participate and contribute to the unfolding drama. Students will also collaboratively create inclusive skits to perform. Creative Prop and Costume Play: Explore the world of role-playing using creative props and costumes, fostering self-expression and imaginative play. Puppetry as Expression: Discover the art of puppetry as a means of communication and creativity, offering students a unique way to express themselves.  Inclusive Storytelling Yoga: We will integrate yoga into the program with a storytelling component.
