Spring Street Link

April 1, 2019

As we head to the final stretch of our school year, we think about some of the work still needing to be done and begin to reflect on some of the successes our students have made thus far.  Some contributors to success include excellent instruction, a strong home/school partnership, and enriching experiences that our students take part.  This school year our students have had the privilege of participating in chess club, Fun Fair, Math Olympiad, Spirit of Spring Street Dinner, Winter Craft Night, Museum of Science presentations, author visits, and our upcoming Field Day and 4th Grade Celebration in June are a few of the opportunities our students have to supplement and enrich their educational experience.  None of these experiences would be possible without our parent volunteers, PTO, and the generosity of our families and community.  Our recent Fun Fair was a huge success which provides the resources for many of these worthwhile and enriching experiences.  We are very grateful to our generous PTO, parents, families, and community.

As you know, our PTO is instrumental in creating many opportunities for families to get to know one another through various events throughout the year as well as creatively raising necessary funds to supplement our students’ experience here at school.  Our current PTO board, Karen Zidonis, Liz Hallee, Amy Slicer, Jen Daley, and Bree Shaw have come to the end of their terms and will not be returning to the PTO board next year.  They have been diligently been attempting to recruit new board members with very little success with the exception of the secretary position (thank you, Kerrie Topi).  We are still in need of a president (or co-presidents), vice president, and treasurer.

If you can help us out, please reach out to me, Karen, Liz, or any PTO board member with questions or any inquiry related to any of these positions.  In the event we do not have a new board for the coming year, our students’ experiences here at Spring Street School will be vastly different, including elimination of some events and experiences, in the coming year as we depend on our PTO’s support for much here at school.  kzidonis13@gmail.com, lfoxwell@hotmail.com, bmabie@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us

Your support allows the PTO, a non-profit organization, to continue to provide community events, enrichment activities and the purchase of supplies and materials that are not included in the annual school budget for Spring Street School. If you would like to make a donation today, you can donate online at: https://squareup.com/store/spring-street-parent-teachers-organization-inc

Volunteering Requirement-CORI Checks

Anyone volunteering at our school must participate in the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check before volunteering.  Volunteering includes classroom volunteering, field trips, field day, etc. Once a CORI check has been completed, your ‘CORI’ is valid for 3 years.  CORI checks are applicable to any volunteering in the Shrewsbury Public Schools. Unfortunately, CORIs completed elsewhere are not valid for Shrewsbury Public Schools.  This link can be used to access the form.  Please return the completed form in person to Mrs. Judith Adair, our secretary, with your license for the CORI to begin being processed.  Please allow for at least 2 weeks for CORI checks to be completed before participating in any volunteer activities at our school. Volunteers without a completed and processed CORI will be unable to volunteer until the process is complete.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
