Dear Shrewsbury Families, Colleagues, & Community Members,
I hope you enjoyed the long weekend despite the rainy weather. I would like to provide you with a few brief updates.
First, we've been notified that students from our RISE Program will be featured on the Chronicle news magazine show TONIGHT at 7:30pm on WCVB Channel 5, during an episode on living with autism. Check it out! If you miss the broadcast, the segment may be available at https://www.wcvb.com/chronicle tomorrow.
Please also note that last week the School Committee was presented with a draft of this year's recommended district goals (with an accompanying slide presentation), and they will vote on the goals at their meeting tomorrow evening. As always, if you have any feedback for the School Committee on this or another topic, you can email the Committee at schoolcommittee@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us.
Last week the School Committee also reviewed a draft of a proposed policy on providing middle school students with information regarding high school options for vocational and career technical education, which is aligned with updated state regulations. If you have feedback regarding this policy in advance of the Committee's vote tomorrow evening, please email the School Committee at the address above.
Finally, I want to call your attention to four outstanding SHS senior students who were honored last week. Congratulations to Vaishnavi Iyer and Sam Rajwani, who received the Superintendent's Award for Academic Excellence, and to Kelvon Sango and Sreegouri Vangala, who received the National School Development Council Award for Academic Growth and Student Leadership in Learning. Watch this clip from the meeting to learn more about these students' extraordinary accomplishments and to hear their brief remarks regarding their experiences in our school district.
Thanks for your continued support of our public schools.
Respectfully,
Joe Sawyer
Superintendent of Schools
