Informational Update: Shrewsbury High School Evacuation

October 11, 2023

A message for all Shrewsbury Public Schools families and staff:

There is NOT a safety concern, but I want to make you aware that just after 10:30am, Shrewsbury High School was evacuated due to a strong sulphur smell due to the servicing of lab equipment, and the Fire Department communicated that there was NOT a safety concern.   At about 10:45am, the Fire Department authorized students and staff to return to the building and resume normal activities.  SHS staff and students handled the evacuation as trained, and we appreciate the fast and thorough response from the Shrewsbury Fire Department.  I am communicating this to all district families and staff so that you receive direct, accurate information from the school district regarding what occurred.

Respectfully,

Joe Sawyer
Superintendent of Schools
