September 7, 2023
Dear Shrewsbury Families,
Based on the most updated forecast for tomorrow (cloudy in the morning with temps in the 70’s, reaching 80 by around 11am, then into the mid-80s by early afternoon, compared to the mid-90s today), I have decided that tomorrow (Friday, September 8) will be a full day of school according to our regular schedule.
Non-air conditioned spaces will still be uncomfortable, and we will follow our heat mitigation approach as we have throughout the week (*see below).
Extended School Care will run on its usual schedule, and will utilize climate controlled spaces as much as possible.
Thank you for your continued understanding and your flexibility.
Respectfully,
Joe Sawyer
Superintendent of Schools
*Everyone is encouraged to dress comfortably for the weather and bring water bottles to stay hydrated. We take a variety of steps to mitigate the heat in our buildings that are not climate controlled, such as venting buildings and drawing in cooler air early in the morning, limiting physical activity when appropriate, and monitoring classroom temperatures and moving classes to cooler spaces in the building where feasible.
