iPad Distribution - 8/7/23

iPads are being distributed to the following groups of students:

• All K-12 students new to the Shrewsbury Public Schools
• Students entering kindergarten
• Students entering grade 5
• Students entering grade 9

All other students will continue to use the iPad they currently have.

We will be holding iPad distribution sessions by appointment running through the end of August. During this appointment, families will receive the iPad, protective case, charging cable, charger, and personalized step-by-step setup instructions. Distribution sessions will be held at Shrewsbury High School.

Families of kindergarten students or students who are new to the district should also follow the password instructions at the bottom of this message.

Similar to how students and their families are responsible for textbooks or other equipment issued to the student, families are responsible for protecting the iPad and are liable for any and all damage to, theft of, or loss of the device, accidental or otherwise. We strongly recommend that you purchase insurance for your child’s school iPad. More information and a link to purchase insurance can be found on our Private iPad Insurance page.

For all returning students in the groups above who still have their iPad from last year:
During these sessions, we will also be collecting last year’s iPads. Please bring your child’s iPad, charger, cable, and case. Please erase your child’s iPad by going to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings. Please note that we are only able to accept genuine Apple iPad chargers and charging cables. We will issue written return receipts for items returned.

Choosing a Password:

PASSWORD DOs

• 15 or more characters 
• Put together multiple words to form a phrase

PASSWORD DON’Ts

• no multiples of the same letter (for example:  mmm)
• no multiples of the same number (for example:  111)
• no multiples of the same symbol (for example: ! ! !)
• no consecutive numbers (for example:  123)
• no consecutive letters (for example:  abc)
• no words found in the dictionary
• no private information (for example:  your name, birthdate, address, phone number)
• no easy to guess information (for example:  nickname, pet’s name, favorite hobby)

PASSWORD RULES

• Only share your password with your parents and your teacher.  
• Do not share your password with friends.

DIRECTIONS FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS TO ENTER YOUR CHILD’S PASSWORD IN POWERSCHOOL

1. Log into PowerSchool at https://ps.shrewsbury.k12.ma.us 
2. Click on your child’s name in the blue box at the top left of your screen
3. You will be directed to a welcome page entitled, “Welcome to the Shrewsbury Public Schools Parent Portal”
4. In the blue box you will find Shrewsbury Accounts at the bottom of the list; click on the blue hyperlinked words “Account Information.”
5. Under Access Information, click on the blue hyperlinked words “Set Password Here”
6. Enter your child’s password and click “check my password” to make sure it follows the given guidelines for passwords.
7. Select the bottom blue button, acknowledging that you give permission to SPS to set up a Google account for your child.
