Superintendent's Update & Invitation to Public Forum on Strategic Planning on Nov 16

November 4, 2022

Dear Shrewsbury Families, Colleagues, & Community Members,

Our school district has begun the work to create an updated strategic plan as our current plan comes to a conclusion.  I am pleased that we are partnering with Focused Schools, an organization who will assist us in identifying our strengths and needs and ensuring that we have robust input from all of our stakeholders.  As part of that process, you are invited to attend an interactive public forum to provide feedback for our next strategic plan on Wednesday, November 16 at 6:30pm at Shrewsbury High School.  I am hopeful that many SPS parents and caretakers, staff members, older students, and community members will join us for this important discussion; if you plan to attend, please complete the RSVP form  here so we can effectively plan for the number attending (to translate this form, see the short video here).  I am excited for the work ahead, where we will seek to create a plan that builds on our successes and focuses our efforts on important areas for improvement.

Quick updates:

1) SHS Fall Play tonight and Saturday: The Shrewsbury High School Performing Arts Department is excited to present its fall play, Gossamer, on November 4th and 5th at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets will be sold at the door only for $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens.  For more information or questions, please contact theatre@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us.

2) Exhibitions of SPS student art: Students in grades K-12 have exhibitions at Shrewsbury Credit Union, Shrewsbury Town Hall, and the Worcester Center for Crafts through the month of November.  Please click here for more information about when and where to see the exhibitions. We are proud of these outstanding student creations!

3) SHS athletics teams in post-season play: Congratulations to the SHS Girls Volleyball team on yesterday's victory in the first round of the state tournament, best of luck to the Cheerleading team, the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams, Field Hockey team, Football team, Boys and Girls Soccer teams, and Unified Basketball teams as they head into their remaining competitions, and congratulations to the Boys and Girls Crew teams and the Golf team for their successes during the fall season.  Consider attending a game to root for SHS: for a complete athletics schedule, click here.

4) Shrewsbury Education Foundation Trivia Night on Saturday: The Shrewsbury Education Foundation (SEF) is excited to announce the in-person return of its annual Trivia Night.  The SEF Trivia Night will be held on Saturday, November 5th at 6:30 p.m. at the Borgatti Bar at Whole Foods in Shrewsbury.  This event will be hosted by Hank Stolz of Radio Worcester.  The cost to participate is $20 per person with a team maximum of 4 people.  All proceeds benefit the Shrewsbury Education Foundation, an all-volunteer organization that raises money to fund grants which put resources and programs directly into classrooms.  Click here to register your team today.  For more information on SEF Trivia Night and to learn more about the Shrewsbury Education Foundation, visit SEFgrants.org.

I hope you enjoy this beautiful late fall weekend!  Thank you for your continued support of our schools.

Respectfully,
