Important Information on Meals for SPS Students

Dear Shrewsbury Families & Staff,

Due to the disruption of school due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we have been working hard to determine an alternative option for students who rely on school breakfasts and lunches while school is closed, or any family that finds itself in need of food.  The health, safety, and food security of our students is our first priority, and many members of our team have been working to create options for families who need this support, including partnering with St. Anne's Human Services.  Please note the following:

On Monday, March 16, we will be moving perishable items that we would have used in the coming week from our cafeterias and providing them to St. Anne's Food Pantry.  Families who need food on Monday for their children should contact or go to St. Anne's at 130 Boston Turnpike (Route 9 next to the White City Shopping Center).

On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (March 17-20) from 11:00am to 1:00pm, families may pick up pre-packaged breakfasts and lunches for their children at the rear of Shrewsbury High School at 64 Holden Street.  This will be a drive up, "grab and go" style pick up of bagged meals.

If you are a family who needs meal support, please click here complete a short survey to help us plan ahead to provide meals for your children.

We know that many families are in need.  Your family does not need to be currently receiving "free or reduced lunch" at school in order to take part in this emergency program.

Many of our staff and parents have asked how they can help ensure our students have enough to eat.  We may have volunteer opportunities in the future, but for now the best way to help is to purchase and mail supermarket gift cards, preferably in denominations of $10 or $20, to St. Anne's Human Services, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545 for distribution to families in need.

If you have specific questions about this program, please email Beth Nichols, Director of Food Services, at bnichols@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us.

Thanks again to everyone who inquired about how we can ensure that all of our students in our town get what they need.  I am incredibly proud to be part of this community.

Respectfully,

Joe Sawyer
Superintendent of Schools
