Positive cases reported where students/staff were physically present in school during their infectious period (requiring contact tracing) = 23 (cumulative total = 1,980)

Positive cases determined to be due to possible* in-school transmission = N/A** (cumulative total = 26)

Positive cases determined to be due to probable* in-school transmission = N/A** (cumulative total = 74)

*Cases are defined as “possible” in-school transmission when cases were close contacts, but other factors outside of school also could account for the transmission. Cases are defined as “probable” in-school transmission if the only known contact with a positive case is the school contact.

**Individual case contact tracing was paused in January due to the volume of cases and the shift in approach to focus on testing symptomatic individuals. Some in-school transmission is presumed to potentially be occurring, but case reviews have not shown any clusters or outbreaks.

Data Collection: The Shrewsbury Public Schools, in collaboration with the Central Massachusetts Regional Public Health Alliance (CMRPHA), is providing transparent reporting of positive cases of COVID-19 in our school communities. These cases include both students and staff (per CMRPHA, we have been asked not to specify between students and staff to maintain confidentiality). All cases are also reported to the MA Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE).
