Spring Street Link

October 22, 2018

In two weeks on Tuesday, November 6 parents and teachers will have the opportunity to participate in parent/teacher conferences.  This is a great opportunity for both parents and teachers to share successes, discuss areas needing support, and to set goals for the coming year.  Teachers have and will be preparing their interpretations of a variety of assessments and observation data that will guide them in developing instructional experiences and learning activities that will support the continuous growth of all our students.  Although each conference is relatively short, please be assured that teachers will ensure that the information shared with you and suggestions for how learning can be collaboratively supported at home will be thoughtful and specific to the needs of your child.

If you haven’t already scheduled a conference with your child’s teacher, please reach out to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to foster a collaborative home/school partnership.

Springo Bingo Sign Up

It's time to sign up for Springo Bingo!  This is a fun night for the whole family at our school on Friday November 9th from 6:30-8pm.  Please see the attached flyer (or the flyer coming home in folders) for details and to sign up.  There is a limited amount of seats, so it is first come first serve.  There will be popcorn and water provided in addition to Bingo, games and fun!

We are looking for prize donations, if you have any small new games or prizes lying around the house, please consider donating it to this event and drop it off in the main office.  Lastly, if you have a child that is a Spring Street School alumni that will be attending the event with your family and that older child would like to help call some of the Bingo numbers on stage please let Bree Shaw (bree2529@gmail.com) know so that they can be on the list.

Extra Yoga Mat

Do you have a clean, gently used or new yoga mat sitting in a closet that hasn’t been used in years? The PE Department is looking for used yoga mats. Learning some deep breathing techniques and some simple yoga movements helps our children learn how to use their bodies in a healthy way!  If you have one you’d like to donate, please have your child bring them to school and place in the gym, thank you.

Ask the Advocate_Shrewsbury Special Education Parent Advisory Council

Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is a volunteer organization made up of parents and caregivers whose children receive special education services through the Shrewsbury Public Schools. We provide a forum for parents and caregivers to share experiences and exchange information. Together, we work for understanding, respect, support and the appropriate education of all children with special needs in our community.

Do you have questions about Special Education?  Then plan to join Shrewsbury and Westborough SEPACs for this Q&A session, Thursday, 11/8/18 at 7 pm at the Shrewsbury Public Library, RSVP is strongly recommended.

Back to School Supply Drive-Thank You!

Every second grader who needed a backpack received one along with their own school supplies!  The donated supplies allowed teachers to create writing and homework folders for students who needed them most!  A first grader who received a backpack with supplies commented 'Wow, now I will have supplies at home to practice my work and even color it to make it pretty for my teacher.’  This was a child I never expected this comment from! Just goes to show how a simple act of kindness touches the lives of many! - Jennifer Keating, Principal, Belmont Street Elementary School

Volunteering Requirement-CORI Checks

Anyone volunteering at our school must participate in the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check before volunteering.  Volunteering includes classroom volunteering, field trips, field day, etc. Once a CORI check has been completed, your ‘CORI’ is valid for 3 years.  CORI checks are applicable to any volunteering in the Shrewsbury Public Schools. Unfortunately, CORIs completed elsewhere are not valid for Shrewsbury Public Schools.  This link can be used to access the form.  Please return the completed form in person to Mrs. Judith Adair, our secretary, with your license for the CORI to begin being processed.  Please allow for at least 2 weeks for CORI checks to be completed before participating in any volunteer activities at our school. Volunteers without a completed and processed CORI will be unable to volunteer until the process is complete.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Dismissal Reminders

  • To ensure the safety of all our students, we request that early dismissals from school occur prior to 3:00pm.  After that time, our school is quite busy preparing for the dismissal of nearly 400 students, we want to ensure our focus is on the safe dismissal of all
  • Our front driveway circle is closed to all traffic with the exception of buses 3:00-3:30 each day
  • Front door walkers are dismissed from the front door to an awaiting adult to walk off of our campus.  In fairness to all families, please do not park in the front circle and use this routine to avoid our parent pick up line.

We appreciate your cooperation and support of our routines

Shriners' Hospitals Can Pull Tab Collection

We all feel so much better when we help others! Shriners' Hospitals around the world help children and their families with life-threatening conditions. We are fortunate to have a Shriners' right next door in Springfield, MA. We can help by collecting/bagging can pull tabs and bringing them into school. Thanks to Mrs. Welch for spearheading this donation drive! Please see the attached document for more information.

Scholastic Book Fair, Help Needed

Calling all volunteers! This year's Spring Street Scholastic Book Fair will be held 10/30- 11/6 in the Media Center. Each day the students will have the opportunity during Media class to see a video with Mrs. Morgan about this year's top offerings, then make wishlists of their favorite books. Books can be purchased during class, online, or at the Book Fair Day, which is during parent/teacher conferences on 11/6. Volunteers are essential to making this important fundraiser a success! Please consider helping with set up, making wishlists with your child's class, or running a register on Book Fair Day. Details can be found here. 2018 Spring Street Scholastic Book Fair
