Spring Street Link

November 13, 2018

Thank you to the many families who were able to participate in our parent/teacher conferences on Tuesday.  We hope that families found this time helpful in further developing the very strong home/school partnership that exists, were excited to hear about successes and growth, and are more informed about learning specific areas of focus in the coming weeks and months.  We realize that we are very fortunate to have such a strong, collaborative partnership with our families, we’re very grateful.

Thank you to our PTO, Liz Foxwell, Karen Zidonis, Jen Daley, Amy Slicer, and excellent hosts, Andy and Bree Shaw, for our fun evening of bingo on Friday, certainly a fun time had by all!  Thanks also to our faculty and staff for their contributions to the trivia contest...did you know one of our teachers has met Lady Gaga?

All School Meeting Sharing

Our next All School Meeting is on November 30th.  Students will have the opportunity to share something they have created/developed that is related to our whole-school focus of the month.  For example, our character trait for November is self-awareness (our Book of the Month is Ahn’s Anger).  In the weeks leading up to our meeting students can create (outside of school) something they would like to share at our meeting.  Some ideas for sharing include a poem, skit, video, PowerPoint, a piece of writing, song, etc. Sharing at our All School Meetings is optional and not required of any student.

Attached to this newsletter is a schedule of our meetings this year and our all-school focus for each month, and a very short form students can fill out and bring to school the Monday of the meeting week to let us know they’d like to share.  In the event that more students offer to share than time will allow, there will be other opportunities during the month to share in class.

Please click here if you are interested in nominating someone connected to Spring Street School or any Shrewsbury Public School that you feel meets the criteria listed above.

Volunteering Requirement-CORI Checks

Anyone volunteering at our school must participate in the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check before volunteering.  Volunteering includes classroom volunteering, field trips, field day, etc. Once a CORI check has been completed, your ‘CORI’ is valid for 3 years.  CORI checks are applicable to any volunteering in the Shrewsbury Public Schools. Unfortunately, CORIs completed elsewhere are not valid for Shrewsbury Public Schools.  This link can be used to access the form.  Please return the completed form in person to Mrs. Judith Adair, our secretary, with your license for the CORI to begin being processed.  Please allow for at least 2 weeks for CORI checks to be completed before participating in any volunteer activities at our school. Volunteers without a completed and processed CORI will be unable to volunteer until the process is complete.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
