Spring Street Link

Thanks to the Campbell class and our Student Council for organizing and facilitating support to the many animals and people affected by the wildfires in Australia. Information on how we can provide assistance and gratitude is below. Much appreciation to Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Luby, and Ms. Zambernardi for helping our students to demonstrate great examples of global citizenship and engagement.
Australia Zoo - Wildlife Warriors...Koalas, Kangaroos, Wombats, and More!
The recent destruction the wildfires in Australia caused has left theCampbell class with the question of, “How can WE help?” We have decided to act and help those in need. These past three weeks we researched, took notes, wrote, and created a pamphlet to educate and spread awareness about these wildfires. Starting Monday, February 3rd until Friday, February 14th, we will collect cash donations and in return, we will pass out our pamphlet we created. We will collect donations in the lobby during the mornings from 8:30-9:00. All the donations will be sent to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors so we can help those animals in need!
With the help from the whole Spring Street community, we know that we can make a difference. Although it would be great to collect a lot of money, that is not our intention. The purpose is to teach others the value of working to help others in times of need. We hope you will consider donating to this amazing organization and become a Wildlife Warrior! For more information on this organization, please visit https://wildlifewarriors.org.au Our pamphlet is here,
Thank You Cards for Australia’s Wildfire FIrst Responders/Volunteers
We invite all Spring Street School families and staff to create postcards and draw pictures to say ‘thank you’ to the many first responders and volunteers who have given so much to help those people and animals in need! These cards will be sent ‘down under’ to show our heartfelt gratitude for their services so far away from us! We know that our good wishes and appreciative thoughts will put smiles on their faces during these difficult times! Cards and illustrations will be collected through Friday, February 14, 2020.
Early-Release Day Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 4th
Tomorrow, teachers will be participating in professional development in the afternoon. Students will be dismissed at 12:15pm, lunches will not be served.

If you were unable to attend the first meeting in January, but would still like to participate in the planning process, please join us! Please contact Amy Slicer (a_fellin@yahoo.com), Kristen Lynch (kelkml@verizon.net), Liz Halle (lfoxwell@hotmail.com), or Karen Zidonis (kzidonis13@gmail.com) with any questions. Thank you!

Aluminum Pull Tab Collection Project
Shriners’ Hospital for Children in Springfield continues to benefit from our SSS pull tab collection project! Over the past 20 years, specialized car seats, pool aqua jogger equipment, pediatric shower chairs and so many other medical and non-medical items have been purchased through this national collection and recycling project. So, collect those pull tabs and send them into school. Our local Shriners’ Hospital is counting on us! Remember alone we can do so little, together we can do so much! Should you have any questions, please contact Angela Welch at awelch@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us.
SEPAC Workshop
Turning Three Essentials on Thursday, 2/13 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Floral Street School Media Center. This workshop will provide information about the procedures for transitioning a child from Early Intervention (EI) to special education. See the attached flyer for additional info and RSVP details.
Volunteering Requirement-CORI Checks
Anyone volunteering at our school must participate in the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check before volunteering. Volunteering includes classroom volunteering, field trips, field day, classroom parties and celebrations, etc. Once a CORI check has been completed, your ‘CORI’ is valid for 3 years. CORI checks are applicable to any volunteering in the Shrewsbury Public Schools. Unfortunately, CORIs completed elsewhere are not valid for Shrewsbury Public Schools. This link can be used to access the form. Please return the completed form in person to Mrs. Judith Adair, our secretary, with your license for the CORI to begin being processed. Please allow for at least 2 weeks for CORI checks to be completed before participating in any volunteer activities at our school. Volunteers without a completed and processed CORI will be unable to volunteer until the process is complete. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
