Dear Shrewsbury Families, Colleagues, & Community Members,
As we head into the school vacation, please accept my best wishes for a relaxing and enjoyable break with family and friends. As we come to the end of the calendar year, I want to express how grateful I feel to be able to serve as your superintendent. Each day I am reminded of the importance of the work that our educators and support staff do that makes a difference for our students; the support that our families and community provides that enables our schools to pursue our mission; and the many ways in which our students demonstrate their growth as learners and their development into thoughtful and caring people.
I know firsthand that Shrewsbury is a wonderful place in which to live, raise a family, and educate children. However, our community faces the same challenges that exist everywhere, and while this time of year can be joyful, it can also be very difficult for many. I appreciate all the ways in which our schools have supported those less fortunate through food and personal item drives, and the supports that our staff have been providing to SPS students and families who are in need. Please remember that there are resources in our community if you need help, such as St. Anne's Food Pantry for nutrition needs, and Shrewsbury Youth & Family Services for mental health needs, as well as for their supportive services such for housing referrals, holiday toys, and fuel and heating assistance through our town's Share the Warmth program.
To all who celebrate, please accept my best wishes for a happy Hanukkah, a merry Christmas, and a happy Kwanzaa, and I hope the new year brings you all good health and good fortune.
Respectfully,
Joe Sawyer
Superintendent of Schools
