MCAS 2021 Information for Families

Dear Families,

I am writing to share important information about the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System, a test you likely know as ‘MCAS’. We recognize that there are a range of feelings about this assessment, and especially this year. However, it’s important that students and parents alike are informed.

The table below shows when the test is being administered in Shrewsbury. As you can see, all students in Grades 3-10 will be expected to take the exam, regardless of their cohort.

option for SHS.

                                                  Grades 10 & 11:  6/1, 6/2

                                                  Gr 9 (Science only) 6/1, 6/2

*Note: Students in Grades 5, 8 and 9 take the Science and Technology test this year.

As always, it’s important to convey to students that tests are important. Children should prepare to do their best work in order to show what they know. It’s also important that each student takes the test individually, and without help. For that reason, teachers that instruct students learning in person thoughtfully prepare their classes for the test.

This FAQ document was designed to help families to prepare for testing. If you are a parent of a remote learner (in Cohort D) please review the parts that describe remote testing.

Thanks for your support with this important effort.

Sincerely,

Amy Clouter
