Superintendent’s Message – April 5, 2021

Dear Shrewsbury Families, Colleagues, & Community Members,

I was extremely impressed with the success of today's return of students in grades K-4 to full, in-person learning.  As one first grader told me, he was giving today “two thumbs up,” and he would have given it “three thumbs up” if he still had his Zoom thumb emoji to use Zoom thumb emoji.

I am very grateful to everyone who made today go so smoothly.  Thank you to our families for partnering with us through these changes; thank you to our staff for the skillful planning and execution of the many complicated logistics necessary to make this work; thank you to our bus contractor, AA Transportation, for working through adjustments to ridership and schedules; and thank you to our students for their continued flexibility and adaptability.

There were lots of smiles behind the masks today in our elementary schools, both students and adults!  Below is a photo of one first grade class at Floral Street who were excited to all be together in the same room.

Today was a very good day, and we're looking forward to other grade spans moving into full, in-person learning in the coming weeks.

Respectfully,

Joe Sawyer
Superintendent of Schools
