Dear Shrewsbury Families,

I am communicating with you to inform you that a member of the Shrewsbury High School community tested positive for COVID-19.  Additionally, an individual who is part of our district's all-remote program also tested positive.

After consultation with the medical staff of the Central Massachusetts Regional Public Health Alliance (who provides public health services to the Town of Shrewsbury), there are no identified close contacts.  It is important to note that based on contact tracing there continues to be no evidence of in-school transmission of COVID-19, and that cases have had clear links to situations away from school.

It is critically important that everyone in our community follow public health precautions in order to minimize the chances of the spread of the virus.  Please wear a mask, observe physical distancing, and wash/sanitize your hands.  Please be especially vigilant whenever you are interacting with individuals outside of your immediate household, including extended family and friends.

Please also be reminded of the following information:

Our students and staff continue to closely adhere to the safety protocols we have in place to mitigate the possible spread of COVID-19 at school, including wearing masks, hand washing/sanitizing, maintaining physical distancing, and staying home when experiencing symptoms that may be consistent with COVID-19.  Further, per our already established procedures, high touch surfaces are cleaned and disinfected throughout the day, other surfaces are disinfected each night, and each school undergoes a deep disinfecting cleaning twice per week.

Because of the protocols we have in place to mitigate against the spread of the virus, and because of the nature of this case, the school schedule will continue as planned.  This news of a positive case reminds us all why it is so very important for all of us to continue to follow safety protocols both at school and outside of school.

We are committed to providing timely and transparent communication with all of the members of our school community regarding any issues related to COVID-19 that affect our schools.  If you have questions or concerns, you may contact me at jsawyer@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us; your school principal; or Noelle Freeman, Director of School Nursing, at nfreeman@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us.

Respectfully,

Joe Sawyer
