A Collaborative Program
Comprehensive health education is inherently interdisciplinary and enables students to thrive, persevere, and maintain positive attitude as well as a healthy body. The information presented to students promotes fundamental health concepts, and guide efforts to build healthy families, schools, and communities. The curriculum represents objectives to build health knowledge in developmentally appropriate ways across all grades, kindergarten through twelve, via a planned sequential and coherent instructional program
Comprehensive health education includes a broad range of content areas and requires shared collaboration, incorporating efforts from the Health Department, Physical Education Department, and Family and Consumer Sciences. The relationship among these three interdependent disciplines is dynamic, interactive, and mutually supportive. Each area brings specific content, perspective and expertise to the curriculum.
Health and education are closely interrelated. In fostering academic achievement, classroom instruction is supported by all components of a comprehensive school health program.
