SHREWSBURY INSTRUMENTAL LESSON PROGRAM

The Shrewsbury Instrumental Lesson Program, SILP, provides convenient and affordable private lessons for our music students. Highly qualified, screened professional musicians teach all of our lessons. Founded in 2006, the program currently has 30+ exceptional instructors who provide lessons to over 400 students per semester in grades 4-12. Private Lessons are required for the first two years of the instrumental program.

The following instruments are available for private study: violin, viola, cello, bass (both string and electric), flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba and percussion (snare and glockenspiel). String lessons are offered to students in grades 4-12. Band instruments (woodwinds, brass, and percussion) are offered to students in grades 5-12. SILP Instructor Biography Webpage.

Semester 2 lessons for 2024-25 will begin during the week of January 27, 2025. In an effort to streamline the process this year, registration will take place through Power School. When registering, you will be able to choose a teacher, day for the lesson and a lesson time. ALL lessons are held at Sherwood Middle School. Lesson fees can be paid online with a credit card or by check. All Payments must be received by March 1, 2025. A $50.00 late fee will be applied after this date.

***Please be aware of potential conflicts for your child. In previous years Lego Robotics, (Sherwood), has met Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, and Ski Club (Sherwood and Oak beginning in January), typically meets on Wednesday afternoons. On Early Release Days, typically Tuesdays, students will need to leave school at dismissal time and return for their lesson. The Extended School Care Program program occasionally uses Tuesday afternoons on early release days for field trips. If your child is enrolled in Extended School Care Program, please avoid Tuesdays for your lessons.

The Sherwood Musical will likely have rehearsals from 3:15-4:15, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday If your child intends to participate in the musical, please schedule a lesson later in the evening.

Students with lessons beginning after 3:15 PM are required to leave school at dismissal and return for their scheduled lesson time (with the exception of those students participating in the Sherwood ESC program.)

Instrument Rentals

Students will need to have instruments (in good working order) to participate in the band/orchestra. program prior to their first lesson. Please note: string instruments come in different sizes, so your child will need to be measured in order to be properly fitted for the instrument. Several options are listed below if you need to rent an instrument or purchase a lesson book. Sizing may be done at the stores listed below and other area music dealers, or the stores may give you directions for sizing a student.

Links to additional program information are also found in the section menu at left. Please review this information and contact the director Tom O'Toole , with any questions you may have. If you own a rental business and would like to be listed on this page, send your business's webpage address to Tom O'Toole.
