Welcome!  This site contains job shadowing opportunities, learning opportunities and internships available to Shrewsbury High School Students, outside of the classroom. Students are welcome to register or attend independently.

Olympus STEM Exploration/ Job Shadow Day, June 20

FREE! Shrewsbury High students are invited to attend a STEM/Job Shadow Day event at Olympus, a leading medical technology company in Westborough, MA.  Students are expected to provide their own transportation.  Suggested hours are 8:00am-5:00pm.  Students will meet employees, participate in a panel discussion, tour the Westborough facility and take part in a number of hands-on activities using their biomedical equipment.  On past field trips, students saw how a laser "blasted" a "kidney stone", explored and "operated on" human lungs and a pig's heart using Olympus laprascopic equipment, and performed "surgery" in a real operating room.  Rising Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors who have NOT attended this field trip in the past are welcome to attend. Students who have NOT previously attended this event will be given preference. For more information and pictures from past events, please visit this site and search for "Olympus".  See agenda below.  " SUE" is nne of Olympus' newest engineering groups, Single Use Endoscopy. They are focused on this concept of “modular engineering” such that components of different scopes can be different but with the same hardware interfaces. In the 3D lab, students will see printed parts of scope products.

Marvell Semiconductor (computer chips), Career Days, June 17-18

FREE! Career Days at Marvell Semiconductor, June 17-18, 10:30am-3:00pm.  This is a 2-day onsite event for students interested in all aspects of computer chip manufacturing: Quality Assurance, Development, Design, Sales, Marketing, etc. Students are expected to provide their own transportation. AbbVie (pharmaceutical research and development), Monday June 24th, 9am-12:30pm

This is a 3.5 hour tour of the AbbVie BioResearch Center in Worcester, MA.  Students must provide their own transportation.

Agenda:

  • Arrival and security check-in at 100 Research Dr., Worcester
  • Introduction to AbbVie and the ABC site (AbbVie BioResearch Center)
  • Walking tours of: the Neutal Corridor of the manufactruing plant, the scale-up Pilot lab, the vivarium and imaging lab, the histology lab
  • Video tour of the automation lab in Cell Line Development
  • Final questions/wrap-up

Adventures in Veterinary Medicine, (Tufts University) - High School Students closed for Summer 2024

Description: The Adventures in Veterinary Medicine High School Program is an engaging and fun way for high school students to spend two weeks learning more about the veterinary profession. This is your opportunity to dig into veterinary medicine through an exciting and intensive program where you’ll be surrounded by others who share your passion for animals, health, and science. Explore specialty fields and important topics in veterinary medicine through informative lectures by Tufts faculty, staff, and vet students and get up close and personal with animals on the Cummings School Farm. Scholarships are available.

Dates: Session 1: July 7-19, 2024, Session 2: July 21- August 2, 2024 

Eligibility: Entering grades 10-12 in Fall 2024 *or* a Spring 2024 high school graduate

Adventures in Veterinary Medicine, (Tufts University) - Middle School Students closed for Summer 2024

Description: The Adventures in Veterinary Medicine Middle School program is a fun and exciting way for middle school students to spend one week learning about being a veterinarian and the varied career opportunities within the profession through hands-on activities and classroom experiences. 

  • Explore specialty fields and important topics in veterinary medicine through engaging lectures by Tufts faculty, staff, and vet students.
  • Get up close and personal with the animals on the Cummings School Farm while learning proper animal handling techniques and performing physical examinations.
  • Build your vet skills! Practice bandaging and suturing, learn how to read x-rays, give a clinical exam to a dog, and work as a team to solve a challenging medical case.
  • Learn how to intubate in our state-of-the art Simulation Lab

Dates: April 15, 2024 and June 24, 2024

Eligibility: Students who have entered 7th or 8th grade as of this past September are eligible for all middle school sessions. Middle school applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for each session.
