Spring Street Link

October 15, 2018

This evening two members of the Spring Street School faculty, along with other Shrewsbury Public School colleagues, will be honored at the Shrewsbury Public Schools’ Professional Status Reception.  This reception is being held to recognize the significant achievement of educators within our school and district.  Professional Status is awarded to school professionals who have successfully taught or practiced in our district for three years.  Not only do the professionals need to have taught or practiced for three years, but also over the course of those three years they have gone through a rigorous evaluation process where they demonstrate their expertise, passion, and dedication to their profession, their students, and their school.  Additionally, teacher professionals demonstrate their commitment to being lifelong learners by participating in various professional development activities including workshops, study groups, graduate level courses, etc.  They consistently demonstrate the core values of our school and district, work tirelessly to support student learning, and positively contribute to the community and culture of our school.  Please join me in congratulating Spring Street School faculty members Mrs. Lauren Finacom and Ms. Mia Whittemore for this achievement as well as their continued dedication to success for all students.

Message for Fourth Grade Families – MCAS Parent Reports

Today 4th grade families will be receiving reports sharing their child’s performance on the Grade 3 Spring 2018 administration of MCAS. Overall, our students continue to perform very well; the information provided by these reports will be used in conjunction with our own district and school measures to continuously monitor and support student growth, we look forward to this work.  If you have any questions about the information contained in the reports please reach out to me or your child’s classroom teacher.

Is it Lost? Lost and Found Area Open for Business!

Yes, it is that time of year again when sweatshirts, lunchboxes, hats are beginning to pile up on the Lost & Found shelves by the back recess door! Please have your child check for any items you have not seen at home in a while- they might just be looking for their owners on the shelves!  Names on tags are a great way for us to reunite owners and items! We are also looking for a parent or two to organize these items through the fall, winter, and spring months. If you are interested in helping out an hour or so a week, this could be the opportunity for you! Contact Mrs. Luby at bluby@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us.

Volunteering Requirement-CORI Checks

Anyone volunteering at our school must participate in the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check before volunteering.  Volunteering includes classroom volunteering, field trips, field day, etc. Once a CORI check has been completed, your ‘CORI’ is valid for 3 years.  CORI checks are applicable to any volunteering in the Shrewsbury Public Schools. Unfortunately, CORIs completed elsewhere are not valid for Shrewsbury Public Schools.  This link can be used to access the form.  Please return the completed form in person to Mrs. Judith Adair, our secretary, with your license for the CORI to begin being processed.  Please allow for at least 2 weeks for CORI checks to be completed before participating in any volunteer activities at our school. Volunteers without a completed and processed CORI will be unable to volunteer until the process is complete.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Dismissal Reminders

This time of year always presents a good opportunity to remind families about our afternoon dismissal routine:

  • To ensure the safety of all our students, we request that early dismissals from school occur prior to 3:00pm.  After that time, our school is quite busy preparing for the dismissal of nearly 400 students, we want to ensure our focus is on the safe dismissal of all
  • Our front driveway circle is closed to all traffic with the exception of buses 3:00-3:30 each day
  • Front door walkers are dismissed from the front door to an awaiting adult to walk off of our campus.  In fairness to all families, please do not park in the front circle and use this routine to avoid our parent pick up line.

We appreciate your cooperation and support of our routines

Shriners' Hospitals Can Pull Tab Collection

We all feel so much better when we help others! Shriners' Hospitals around the world help children and their families with life-threatening conditions. We are fortunate to have a Shriners' right next door in Springfield, MA. We can help by collecting/bagging can pull tabs and bringing them into school. Thanks to Mrs. Welch for spearheading this donation drive! Please see the attached document for more information.

Scholastic Book Fair, Help Needed

Calling all volunteers! This year's Spring Street Scholastic Book Fair will be held 10/30- 11/6 in the Media Center. Each day the students will have the opportunity during Media class to see a video with Mrs. Morgan about this year's top offerings, then make wishlists of their favorite books. Books can be purchased during class, online, or at the Book Fair Day, which is during parent/teacher conferences on 11/6. Volunteers are essential to making this important fundraiser a success! Please consider helping with set up, making wishlists with your child's class, or running a register on Book Fair Day. Details can be found here. 2018 Spring Street Scholastic Book Fair
