Much appreciation to our PTO, families, students, and community members for your kind gestures of appreciation last week during Teacher and Nurse Appreciation Days.  We were spoiled by the kind notes, conversations, cookies, plants, lunches, and many other kind gestures, much appreciation!  I too, appreciate all that our teachers and nurse does to foster a kind, collaborative, and caring school community that fosters student learning, academically and socially, at very high levels.  Thank you!

Opportunity for our Grade 4 Students

Next year at Sherwood Middle School your son or daughter will have the opportunity to join one of our optional performance ensembles - Band, Chorus, or Orchestra (BCO). In addition to learning how to play or sing as part of a group, BCO students will develop important ‘life skills’ such as discipline, communication, teamwork, responsibility, self-confidence, and critical thinking skills. Our goal is to help each BCO student develop in these areas and become successful.  On Friday, May 17th, our middle school Select Chorus, Select Band, and String Ensemble will be holding informal performances from 6:00 -7:00 pm in the gym at Oak Middle School.  This event is a great opportunity for you and your child to hear the different ensembles that we have to offer in order to make an informed decision for next year.  We will also be available to answer your questions. The performing groups will continuously rotate throughout the evening, so stop by at any time! This is a very informal "Open House" for our musical ensembles. Sign-ups for next year will open online at the conclusion of the concert.

2019-2020 BUS REGISTRATION INFORMATION

1. ALL students who wish to ride a bus to a school in our district or Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School, St. John’s High School, St. Mary’s School, Montessori School, Al Hamra Academy must be registered in our 2019-2020 Bus Registration System.

The deadline for registration and payment [if required] is June 30, 2019 at 4:30pm.  All registrations made or postmarked after this deadline will be subject to a $50 late fee per student [$150 family cap for late fees].

2. We strongly encourage use of our online payment center.  The online payment center can only be accessed via the PowerSchool Parent Portal after completion of the bus registration process.  You will receive a payment receipt immediately upon completion of a payment transaction using the online system.  [If you choose to mail in the check payment with your registration form, you will not receive a payment receipt from the School Dept.  Your cleared/processed check from your bank will serve as proof of payment.]  There is no “processing charge/convenience fee” for online payment of the bus fee.

 3. All of the regulations and rules pertaining to bus ridership eligibility and the requirement to pay a fee are posted on our website under the Transportation link.  Please read them carefully and access the FAQ if you have questions.   The bus fee for the 2019-2020 school year is $310/student with a $930 family cap.

Overdue Fees or Negative School Lunch Balance

Parents are reminded that the District will proactively block student registration for busing and all other fee or tuition-based programs if your student has a negative School Lunch account or funds due for any fee-based program [Extended School Care, Full-Day Kindergarten, Preschool, Athletics, Student Activity Fee, Music Lessons etc…)  If you are experiencing a job loss or significant decrease in household income, you may apply for Free or Reduced Meals at the weblink below at anytime during the school year.  Eligibility for Free or Reduced Meals is the financial means test that the District uses to either reduce or waive other school-based fees.

Spring Street School PTO Direct Donation Campaign

The PTO is excited to sponsor many wonderful programs and events for your children and our community this year.  We hope that you will consider making a contribution to our Direct Donation Campaign. Your support allows the PTO, a non-profit organization, to continue to provide community events, enrichment activities and the purchase of supplies and materials that are not included in the annual school budget for Spring Street School. If you would like to make a donation today, you can donate online at: https://squareup.com/store/spring-street-parent-teachers-organization-inc

Volunteering Requirement-CORI Checks

Anyone volunteering at our school must participate in the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check before volunteering.  Volunteering includes classroom volunteering, field trips, field day, etc. Once a CORI check has been completed, your ‘CORI’ is valid for 3 years.  CORI checks are applicable to any volunteering in the Shrewsbury Public Schools. Unfortunately, CORIs completed elsewhere are not valid for Shrewsbury Public Schools.  This link can be used to access the form.  Please return the completed form in person to Mrs. Judith Adair, our secretary, with your license for the CORI to begin being processed.  Please allow for at least 2 weeks for CORI checks to be completed before participating in any volunteer activities at our school. Volunteers without a completed and processed CORI will be unable to volunteer until the process is complete.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Shriners' Hospitals Can Pull Tab Collection

We all feel so much better when we help others! Shriners' Hospitals around the world help children and their families with life-threatening conditions. We are fortunate to have a Shriners' right next door in Springfield, MA. We can help by collecting/bagging can pull tabs and bringing them into school. Thanks to Mrs. Welch for spearheading this donation drive! Please see the attached document for more information.
