Spring Street Link

At our All School Meeting on Friday, our character trait focus was on resilient.  Our discussion on what being resilient means and looks like was anchored by our Book of the Month, Rosie Revere, Engineer.  In the book, Rosie is constantly tinkering and inventing and one day creates a gadget to help her visiting aunt fly.  Rosie’s disappointment at the gadget only ‘hovering’ for a moment was short as her aunt claims it a ‘raging success’ as her effort and accomplishment is something to celebrate and shares, You can only truly fail if you quit”, encouraging Rosie to pursue continuing to work on this project.

Our discussion included that sometimes hard work, resilience, and dedication doesn’t result in the success that we envision but often our success comes after learning from the failure and then continuing to try again and again.  Our students made many connections to the work they do at school and home and how failure often provides learning opportunities on how we can grow and improve.  With hard work, effort, and a ‘learning’ mindset, our mistakes and failures are opportunities to refine our work and support our learning.

Gift of Knowledge Information

What better way to celebrate a birthday than by donating a book to the Spring Street Media Center?  For a small fee, the birthday child will attend a special breakfast in the cafeteria before school from 8:30-9:00am, select a book with a personalized book plate acknowledging their generosity, and be the first one to take that book home!  Look for your child's invitation approximately 2 weeks before their scheduled celebration day.  Upcoming dates are as follows:

5/16/18 (June, July and August birthdays)

Volunteering Requirement-CORI Checks

Anyone volunteering at our school must participate in the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check before volunteering.  Volunteering includes classroom volunteering, field trips, field day, etc.  Once a CORI check has been completed, your ‘CORI’ is valid for 3 years.  CORI checks are applicable to any volunteering in the Shrewsbury Public Schools.  Unfortunately, CORIs completed elsewhere are not valid for Shrewsbury Public Schools.  This link can be used to access the form.  Please return the completed form in person to Mrs. Judith Adair, our secretary, with your license for the CORI to begin being processed.  Please allow for at least 2 weeks for CORI checks to be completed before participating in any volunteer activities at our school.  Volunteers without a completed and processed CORI will be unable to volunteer until the process is complete.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
