February is American Heart Moonth

February 10, 2019

Dear OMS Families,
This week we begin high school course selection presentations for our grade 8 students.  I can’t even believe we have already hit this point in the school year!  OMS administrators, curriculum coordinators, guidance counselors, and teachers work in partnership with the SHS staff to ensure that students and parents have all the information they need to make appropriate course decisions for our students.

This week, we will work with each grade 8 team to help students navigate the Program of Studies and understand some of the key terms associated with the high school registration process, i.e., credits, semesters, electives, etc.  Please take some time to look through the Shrewsbury High School Program of Studies which can be found on our website HERE.  Later this week, we will also post the course selection process powerpoint presentation to the same page.

Please reach out to our staff with specific questions regarding course options and placement decisions.  We are here to help!

Shrewsbury High School Curriculum Night for Families of INCOMING FRESHMEN
The Shrewsbury High School Leadership Team invites Grade 8 parents and caregivers  to Curriculum Night on Thursday, February 28th at 6:30pm in the SHS auditorium, where they will explain the course selection and registration process for incoming ninth graders. This is an important meeting for parents and caregivers only to learn about our curriculum and how to select appropriate courses for a diverse and challenging high school program.
In the coming weeks, Grade 8 students will participate in on team course selection/registration process presentations.  Then, grade 8 teachers will be making their course recommendations for each of their students.  Registration will take place in school during the week of March 13th.  Please direct placement questions to your child’s teacher.

Congratulations to all 10 Oak students who competed yesterday at the MathCounts chapter competition - Anne Wu, Anush Shah, Elena Li, and William Chen as the Oak Team and Jasmine Fu, Alexander Kaneko, Sujay Nimmagadda, Harsh Patil, John Qiu, and Maahir Raval as individuals. We had many victories. Alex won 1st place and was also the champion of the countdown round. Anush won 2nd place and Jasmine was the highest scoring girl at the competition. Oak was the first place team and our team will be going on to the state competition. Alex, Jasmine, and Harsh won the 3 spots for going on to the state level as individuals (with John tied for that 3rd spot but losing the tie-breaker) In fact, 7 out of the 12 highest scoring students were from Oak.
