Information re: Small Fire at SHS

October 28, 2021

Dear SHS Families,

This afternoon at approximately 1:00 there was a small fire in a cooking classroom at SHS.  The fire was immediately put out and all students and staff were evacuated safely; there were no injuries.  The Shrewsbury Fire Department responded, and they have determined that we will be able to have school as scheduled tomorrow

Please note:

  • Due to smoke, students were not being allowed back in the building prior to dismissal.
  • Most students had their belongings with them as the fire alarm happened during passing time between classes.
  • Students who drove themselves to school were dismissed from campus at 1:50pm to clear traffic
  • Buses left campus on time
  • Shrewsbury Police assisted with parent pick up traffic
  • The academic wings are closed for the rest of today and this evening. Students who would have stayed for after school activities or extra help today were required to leave campus
  • The auditorium, field house, and locker rooms are accessible and all drama and athletic events scheduled for later this afternoon and this evening remain on schedule

We appreciate the quick actions on the part of our staff and the excellent response on the part of the Shrewsbury Fire Department and the Shrewsbury Police.  We look forward to a normal day of school tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Todd Bazydlo
Principal
