What is it?

The SPS Colonial Fund supports innovative projects across our district.  This year, we’d like to extend that to offering an exploratory, creative summer program for rising freshman and sophomores.  We’d like to offer 5-6 courses that give students the opportunity to experience their interest areas in a new way, deepen their current passions or discover a completely new passion.  In the words of Ted Dintersmith, we want to offer courses that demonstrate “what school could be”.  We envision lots of collaborative discussion, debate, creative thinking, and hands on learning.  Each course should also take students out of the classroom and off the SHS campus at least once.

What kind of class can I offer?

We believe the possibilities are truly endless. Would you love the time to drill down on just one component of a class you already teach?  Is there a topic in your field that you’ve never covered in class but would love to try?  Do you have a hobby or an outside interest that you would like to introduce to students?  Can you envision team teaching a course that crosses disciplines in a really interesting way?
