COVID-19 Update - March 24, 2020

Dear Shrewsbury Families & Colleagues,

I want to provide you with a brief update this evening.

1) There are now three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Shrewsbury.  To my knowledge, none are directly associated with our schools.

2) Thank you for all you are doing to maintain social distancing as Gov. Baker asks us all to remain home as much as possible and protect our older and health-compromised family members, friends, and community members by slowing the spread of the virus.  I also want to offer my sincere thanks to those in the medical profession and first responders who are working on the front lines to help those who are sick.

3) Our SPS team continues to work hard to plan for ways to best support students, families, and our staff through this evolving situation, in anticipation of a potentially longer period of school closure and updated guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education regarding remote learning (see my last communication for more details).  I ask that families help their students take advantage of the resources that are currently being provided by our educators for learning opportunities, and I promise that we will communicate any updates to this approach as soon as we have new information to share.  Parents, please don't hesitate to reach out to your children's teachers or principal with questions you may have.

I know many of our students' families and staff members' families have been turned upside down as a result of this crisis.  Thanks again for your continued patience and support as we work through this challenging time together.  I will be communicating again soon.

Respectfully,

Joe Sawyer
Superintendent of Schools
