ALL SHREWSBURY PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 2020.

ALL SHREWSBURY PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 2020.

Dear Shrewsbury Families,

While there are NOT any confirmed or presumed positive COVID-19 cases in Shrewsbury, given the rapid changes happening across our nation and state as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, I have decided to close all Shrewsbury Public Schools for tomorrow, Friday, March 13.  This will facilitate additional deep cleaning of our schools and also provide additional time and opportunity to determine how we can best respond as a school district to this unprecedented public health situation.  Unless other circumstances dictate, the plan is to resume school on Monday, March 16.  I will continue to communicate so that you have clarity in a timely way in the coming days.

Also, any activities or events scheduled for this afternoon or this evening that would involve the use of our schools or attendance by those other than our own students and staff are postponed or canceled.  This includes the Unified Basketball game for the middle school team, the ALS Fundraiser basketball game at Shrewsbury High School, and tonight's public performance of the SHS musical The Addams Family.   I will provide information regarding activities and events beyond today and tonight in a separate communication.

I appreciate the questions and suggestions many of you have sent to me, and those emails I received last night and this morning were reviewed by our leadership team.  I am sorry that under the circumstances it will be some time before I can respond to messages, but please know I value your input highly.  I appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this situation.  This is an unprecedented and extraordinary time for all of us.  I have always been proud to be a member of the Shrewsbury community, and I am confident that our collective response to this very challenging situation will be characterized by respect and support for one another.   I will continue to communicate with you as this very complex situation continues to develop.

Respectfully,

Joe Sawyer
