In each grade at Paton, students learn and build upon new concepts, techniques and materials.

Kindergarten will explore line, primary colors and secondary colors, shape (geometric) and texture.

Grade 1 will explore line, primary colors and secondary colors, shape (geometric), actual
texture, and weaving. Additionally, students will develop an understanding on how to use basic shapes to make real objects.

Grade 2 will explore overlapping shapes, foreground/middleground/background, warm and
cool colors, symmetry, 3D form using paper, and visual texture.

Grade 3 will explore complementary colors, neutrals, value, monochromatic, positive/negative
shapes/space, drawing portraits, radial symmetry, printmaking, and Wampanoag/ Early American art.

Grade 4 will explore form using clay, value/ shading, tertiary colors, one-point perspective, and direct
observation.
