Kindergarten Information 2018-2019
Children must be 5 years old by August 31st in order to enter kindergarten. In mid-December of the year before your child will begin school, we send a letter home to families whose name we got from the town census or who have sent in their child’s information to me through email. Although we would like to be able to offer full day kindergarten to all families, due to space issues we must select students who want full day through a lottery. The December letter will give you more information regarding the kindergarten process as well as request that you complete an online survey. In the online survey, you will have the opportunity to request your child’s name be entered into the lottery for full day kindergarten. It will also ask you for contact information that will make it easier for us to contact you with updated information.
If you have not yet done so, please send me the following information by email so I can check that your child is on our incoming kindergarten list. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org
Child’s first name
Child’s last name
Date of Birth
Once the lottery has been pulled (usually in early February), the results will be posted on our website. At that time, we usually do not know yet how many full day spots will be available, but all children’s names will be listed on a wait list by district in the order in which they were selected. Once we know the number of full day spots, you will receive a letter in the mail letting you know if your child received full day, or placed on an updated wait list (still in the order in which they were selected) and placed in a half day program (morning or afternoon depends on where in town you live).
As families decline full day or move out of town, I call from the wait list to see if families are still interested in taking the full day spot. This process continues through October 1st.
There is also a fee for full day kindergarten (and no fee for half day). This school year the fee is $4000.00 for the year, but may go up slightly for the 2018-2019 school year.
