Spring Street Link

April 2, 2018

As we head to the final stretch of our school year, we think about some of the work still needing to be done and begin to reflect on some of the successes our students have made thus far.  Some contributors to success include excellent instruction, a strong home/school partnership, and enriching experiences that our students take part.  This school year our students have had the privilege of participating in chess club, Fun Fair, Math Olympiad, Spirit of Spring Street Dinner, Winter Craft Night, Museum of Science presentations, author visits, and our upcoming Field Day and 4th Grade Celebration in June are a few of the opportunities our students have to supplement and enrich their educational experience.  None of these experiences would be possible without our parent volunteers, PTO, and the generosity of our families and community.  Our recent Fun Fair was a huge success which provides the resources for many of these worthwhile and enriching experiences.  We are very grateful to our generous parents, families, and community.

Resources for Parents and Students

Parents often ask us what they can do at home to help their child’s development. In efforts to assist parents with additional resources, we’ve created a list of iPad and computer based applications for students K-4 to use at home to help with OT, social skills, executive functioning, and academic skills. These applications and programs include various activities and supports such as, visual schedules and procedure boards, activity timers, mindfulness strategies, social stories, letter formation, math/reading/writing practice, and other helpful tools. We encourage you to explore these supplemental applications that will help enhance your child’s growth and development. It will help them generalize skills they are working on at school. We look forward to continuing to build this list of resources in the future and hope you find it helpful.

Gift of Knowledge Information

What better way to celebrate a birthday than by donating a book to the Spring Street Media Center?  For a small fee, the birthday child will attend a special breakfast in the cafeteria before school from 8:30-9:00am, select a book with a personalized book plate acknowledging their generosity, and be the first one to take that book home!  Look for your child's invitation approximately 2 weeks before their scheduled celebration day.  Upcoming dates are as follows:

4/4/18 (March, April and May birthdays)

5/16/18 (June, July and August birthdays)

Volunteering Requirement-CORI Checks

Anyone volunteering at our school must participate in the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check before volunteering.  Volunteering includes classroom volunteering, field trips, field day, etc.  Once a CORI check has been completed, your ‘CORI’ is valid for 3 years.  CORI checks are applicable to any volunteering in the Shrewsbury Public Schools.  Unfortunately, CORIs completed elsewhere are not valid for Shrewsbury Public Schools.  This link can be used to access the form.  Please return the completed form in person to Mrs. Judith Adair, our secretary, with your license for the CORI to begin being processed.  Please allow for at least 2 weeks for CORI checks to be completed before participating in any volunteer activities at our school.  Volunteers without a completed and processed CORI will be unable to volunteer until the process is complete.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
