The 10,000-Hour Service Learning Challenge at SHS

The 10, 000- hour challenge is a service learning initiative to get all students at Shrewsbury High School volunteering in the community.

PLEASE NOTE: Service Learning is NOT a graduation requirement at Shrewsbury High School.

The classes are challenged to complete 10,000 hours of service learning by the time they graduate. As a class, the students would complete:

  • 1000 hours as freshman
  • 2000 hours as sophomores
  • 3000 hours as juniors
  • 4000 hours as seniors

With classes averaging 400 students, each student would be asked to complete

  • 2.5 hours in 9th grade
  • 5.0 hours in 10th grade
  • 7.5 hours in 11th grade
  • 10 hours in 12th grade

All students are required to turn in a Service Learning reflection sheet in order for their volunteer hours to be counted towards the 10,000 Hour Challenge.
