Floral ASAP

The Floral After School Activities Program offers classes throughout the year.
These classes are only open to students currently enrolled in Floral School.
There will be two more sessions during the 2017-2018 school year - starting in early March, and starting in early April. All information about the classes will be posted here and announcements will be sent to all Floral parents via email in advance of registration. Class offerings vary throughout the year depending on teacher availability and interest.

Registration for the March classes will open Wednesday February 14th at 7:00AM.  Click on the name of the class to register.

Wednesday Classes

ClassCreative Writing
Grades: 3 & 4
Time: Wednesdays 3:30-4:30
Dates: 3/7, 3/14, 3/21, 3/28, 4/4, 4/11
Instructor: Ms. Ushinski
Location: Floral
Total # of students: 12
Description: Each week students will focus on one element of writing. Writers will elicit emotion and stretch out stories with suspense. Pupils will pen from different perspectives. Apprentices will add fun to fantasy and argue adamantly about a personal opinion. Every class will also have woven in journal writing for fluency and introduction to new vocabulary. Join us for creative writing fun!

Grades1, 2 & 3

Description: MakerSpaces foster and encourage hands-on learning and provide opportunities for students to design, experiment and invent as they interact with a variety of materials. Students will be using critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they explore new ideas through structured challenges and self-directed discovery time. Bring your imagination and join us for some MakerSpace fun!

ClassYES! Young Environmental Stewards
Grades: 3
Time: Wednesdays 3:30-4:30

Description: Students will take a closer look at sprouting plants and will help to plant the seedlings for this years garden. We will also spend time out in the garden preparing it for a new season of growing. In addition we will check in on changes out on the nature trail.

Description: Using different art patterns, designs and media, students will learn to create all different tie-dye designs! Each week we will combine different materials in order to create new exciting colorful designs!

ClassReader's Theatre
Grades: 2, 3 & 4

Description: Everyone loves the stage! This program offers students the chance to choose different reading selections and bring them to life through expression of voice and body. Reader's Theatre promotes working partnerships, strengthens comprehension, and increases fluency. Furthermore… IT'S FUN! Participants will perform for a small audience on the last night of our 6 week session.

Grade 4 students only

Description: Would you like to grow your brain by learning a traditional card game? Cribbage is an exciting race to the finish between partners. It uses mental math strategies to find combinations of points. Cribbage was invented by the British over 300 years ago. You don’t need to know how to play card games to sign up for this course. If you’re a current fourth grader at Floral Street School, join in the fun with Mrs. Spangenberg and build your math skills in the process.
Note: Students who participated in the previous Cribbage and Cards class are welcome to enroll. They will build on the skills they gained in previous sessions.

Grades: 1 & 2

Instructor: Ms. Fallis Baril and Ms. Huang
Location: Floral
Total # of students: 20
Description: Do love creating and building in your free time? Join us for Building Buddies! We’ll be using Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs, Legos, KNex, and a few other building tools to create castles, ships, cities, and other imaginary structures. Some of us might even participate in some friendly competition! Hope to see you there!
